Planning on the Camino Del Norte in 2018
I'm planning my first Camino (the CDN) for July and August of 2018. I'm wondering about sticking to the coast Ribadeo to Ferrol. I've taken a cursory wander through the thread and the info seems to be 2016 and earlier. Has anyone taken this route since? Or could anyone direct me to more resources for planning this portion of the trip - places to stay, water sources, food, etc. Equally, I'm also wondering about the advisability of this stretch for a first timer. I really appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom and welcome to the Forum. @Tia Valeria might still be your best resource for information, even though she walked the Rua del Mar a couple years ago. She may know of more current resources as well.

Take care and Buen Camino!

Welcome to the forum Tom.
We have only just returned from Spain, but did not reach Galicia this year.
If you check out our blog for 2015 you will find some information. The route was not well marked then, but we had sections of the relevant maps to help us. Others have relied on GPS. I will try to check out our sources of information to see if they are still 'live' and post again.
One thing that is more important is an ability to speak some Spanish (Castellano) as the area is not used to pilgrims who do not speak at least a little. As you are planning for 2018 maybe you can find a simple audio course to help with that. It would be useful for any part of the Camino.
We might have only just got home but are already thinking about next year when 'Galicia calls', so we might glean some more information next spring.

Take a look at @Magwood blog:

It is really a good read!

I should have added the link to our blog as it starts in Ribadeo and finishes in Santiago plus our return home via Pravia.
Posts are under June 2015 (Ribadeo to Ferrol) and July 2015 (Ferrol to Santiago) - although we walked in May.

Thanks, Tia. I'm looking into some simple language courses and some practice to help 'tune' my ear from Mexican to european Spanish.

One very simple way to 'tune your ears' is to watch the online Spanish weather-forecast. It is posted at around 4.10pm Spanish time and lasts about 10 minutes. Go to http://www.rtve.es/eltiempo/ and click on the video. Our Spanish is N Argentinian Castellano and we find it fine in N Spain. It was also fine on the Ruta do Mar, even with the Gallego speakers.
Buen Camino

Hi Tom, good question!
I'd like to know the answer as well...
However we'll do it this year in October.
Keep you posted.
