G'day Glade, I have used 3 different providers, Southern Cross, Zoom and NIB. Not much difference between them really, however I have not had to make a claim so far. Look at Compare the Market for a good idea of whats available and what suits you best.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thanks for both of those, I forgot to add that it was health insurance cover. Sorry for any miscommunications.

I have used Tick most recently. There is some wide variation now in what pre-existing medical conditions get covered in the standard premium, and how much extra it costs if there are conditions that they want to charge for. It's also worth reading the fine print on things like flight delay coverage on separately purchased flight tickets. I have been caught out not leaving enough time between scheduled arrival time of one flight and the scheduled departure time of the next one when the tickets weren't purchased together.

If you pay at least $500 by credit card e.g. for your flights, you will automatically have some cover including medical, probably with Allianz and it will include tour travelling companion if you have one. How much depends on your card, it might be 60 or it might be 90 days. We have used 1Cover, and they paid up on a claim for lost luggage and weren´t too expensive.

We sat down with our manager in CBA
She rang their insurance company , same as all others ….Cover More or whatever .
We purchased plane tickets with bank card
We purchased a few nights in advance with the same card .
We were covered for every single situation .

We are now 77 yrs and the previous 16 Camino years don’t count , however the same procedure is followed , keep us up to date ….don’t drive cars etc
Buy the manager a lunch in Lygon St .
We are very happy with the situation.

American Express might run out when 75yrs , not certain on that statement .

Hi Glado, to clarify do you mean Health insurance or travel insurance?

Not all credit cards have insurance associated with them. Low fee cards in particular have no insurance cover.

Glade I think this depends on whether you have any existing health issues or if it is purely for accidental or inopportune incidences that occur while you’re on your Camino.
I’ve used various ones depending on where I am going and what I’m doing. I believe Covermore provide great cover at a price, I’ve only had to claim once and that was through RACQ Travel Insurance without any difficulty.

For years I used the cover of my platinum Visa. Alas, the coverage expired when I turned eighty.
The past few times I have used Allianz who provided the cheapest quote. I have not had a claim to date so I do not know what the are like with claims.
My experience with insurance companies is that the will pay without argument for small claims. With large claims they will do everything to avoid payment.

Good luck there. Travel insurance companies are now charging extra for medical conditions such as high blood pressure and cholesterol which they did not formerly do. Both, for the vast majority of patients, I would argue, are neither life threatening and easily managed. It's a rort.
