I will be finishing the Camono del Salvador tomortow and then starting the Primitivo. I would like to stay at an inexpensive non-albergue for one night. Is there someplace close to the start of the Primitivo that would be a good choice?

We always stayed on Calle Uria near the station. There is the Hotel Favila, in sight of the train station. Also Pension Oviedo nearer the corner (still on Calle Uria) by the Cafe-Bar Cristina - entry by pressing the bell and talking into the microphone. It is upstairs and over the cafe and pilgrim friendly.
Each time we had breakfast in the Cafe-Bar Cristina and it is on the Camino at the corner.

The camino goes straight through the heart of Oviedo, from the Cathedral almost to the train/bus station, so any place centrally located will be near the camino. In the old town, I like Hostal Arcos, though its prices seem to have risen. The Vetusta is another place I like a lot, I think it is a two-star hotel. I have been in Oviedo a number of times on different caminos, and what I usually do is just head to booking and am usually able to get a last minute great deal.

Here is a screen shot of the area between cathedral and train station, so you can compare with a map on booking if you just take pot luck with a last minute rate and want to be close to the camino. I just looked for tomorrow and the Reconquista has a room for about $100 — though that’s clearly not a budget rate, it is quite a good rate for that place, which is where some of the Penelope Cruz movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona was filmed.

Pensión Romero is another option — I’ve never stayed there but think other forum members have recommended it.

You will love Oviedo, and if you are a fan of ancient architecture, the Naranco sites are just spectacular.

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Look at Airbnb there are lots on there. I have a room for tomorrow night (2 Oct) for 17 euros and it right in the centre. I’m also leaving the Salvador and going onto the Primitivo.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I’m at the Romero now, leaving on the Primitivo tomorrow. It’s clean, inexpensive and a great location with Decathlon across the street and El Corte Ingles supermarket just a 100m further down. It’s parallel to the Camino, near the way out of town.

Ali, I bet you and Mike will meet, since he walks long stages and is just a day behind you!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I had hoped to see Naranco but I overdid my last days walk on the Salvador (somehow I tracked 37 kms) so my rest day in Oviedo truly was a rest day. I’m in Grado tonight, planning an easy day to Salas tomorrow.
