Le Puy-en Velay

We want to start the camino de Santiago in France. I see there are two ways to cross into Spain. One goes through Roncesvalles and the other Sompost and Java. Both then meet in Pomplano.

Do we start in Le Puy-en Velay for both routes?
(One of the books recently purchased has a map missing that would most likely have answered this question.)

What are some of the best features, advantages etc. for each of these routes?

you can start wherever you choose; the only rules are the ones you impose on yourself. There's an overview of current waymarked/supported routes on my website http://www.peterrobins.co.uk/camino/ but you don't have to follow a waymarked route if you don't want to.

I too will be walking from le puy in late june to join the flood of people of the CF. I anticipate problems in finding accommodation, especially in france, so intend taking a tent. Does anyone have any experience comments on camping?
