Hello from England 👋.

Does anyone have any recommendations for history books on the Knights Templar please?

I would ideally like a general one which covers the subject globally 🌍 and also one that concentrates more specifically on the Camino Frances 🇪🇦.

Thank you! 😊

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I have several books on the subject but they are all in storage at the moment. I will admit they don't shed a light on what the Templars were in the reality of the times. An Amazon search on the subject will provide you with many sources, some of the books are fanciful portraits of the Crusades and some are very boring in depth historical studies. All I really want to find is the key to where the treasury is buried, it could not have all ended up in Rome when de Molay was burned at the stake. .

You may be interested in The Templars by Dan Jones. It provides information from the origin of the Order to the death of Jacque de Molay in Paris and the subsequent hunt for the remaining Templars. Political intrigue at its best.

Thank you 😊. I have just ordered it from Amazon and looking forward to reading it.

The Templars: The Rise and Spectacular Fall of God's Holy Warriors by Dan Jones is a really good read. It dwells on what happened in Spain a fair amount, but it mainly tells the story of the entirety of their order and activities. I've read several histories by Dan Jones and his books make it all very interesting and exciting.

To get your head into the Medieval mind, you might read "Medieval Wanders and Wonders, Understanding Northern Spain and the Camino de Santiago" by Kate Simons. She lists one of her (many) sources as "The Templars: The Secret History Revealed" by Barbara Frale. Buen Camino

Holoholo automatically captures your footpaths, places, photos, and journals.
Another good read is : « The Templars « by Piers Paul Read.
It is a well written and well documented history of the order. Not much direct reference to SdC, but their role and history in relation to SdC is pretty well documented on the web through sites like Wikipedia etc.

Enrique Gil y Carrasco , Spanish author “ El Señor de Bembibre “ is the history of the Templars in Spain , I don’t if its published English but a worthwhile reading
