I was always thankful, seeing all these walkers with knee support wraps, that I never had knee problems. Then last July (a year ago), I tore a lateral ligament in my knee, riding a bike. Apparently ligaments don't heal, as there is no blood supply. It's a structural issue and all you can do is strengthen the muscles around it, do stretching, etc. I did all that. I'm fine as long as I don't walk downhill, squat down and try to stand up, or try to kneel. Haha. I managed to walk the Portugues this year anyway, and just ignored the pain when it cropped up. It was a great walk! But I don't think I'd try the Primitivo.
So do I just have to live like this? Anyone here had a torn ligament repaired and how was your recovery? And secondarily, which country with socialized medicine will accept me as a citizen? (In the US, even with insurance, a basic MRI screening to evaluate the injury would be over a $1000.)
