Last night I booked my air tickets on Iberia to Toulouse, returning from Santiago.
They were cheaper than our tickets in 2007! Due to the drop in crude oil, airfares have gone down considerably. We even managed to get return tickets from Durban to Johannesburg on a local domestic airline for R558 which is normally the one way fare.
We had a luncheon get-together at my house. I had my backpack completely packed - even down to two 500ml bottles of water. We weighed everything in the pack on a digital scale and my final backpack weight is 5.6kg. The heaviest items are my hiking sandals and the ALTUS raincoat which weigh a kg between them.
So ..... "my bags are packed, and I'm ready to go, I'm standin' here outside my door .. can't wait to wake you up to say goodbye ....... 'cause I'm leaving on a jet plane ...... can't ait to get back to Spain ... la la la da di da ...."

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Sil now say it again even louder:

Did you say 5.6 kgs including a litre of water?

Estupendo!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Yes - 5.6kg completo!
But, I have a secret weapon - my digital scale!
I treat my backpack like a close friend on weight watchers and everything that goes into her is weighed first!
Secret weapon number two is my backpack - it weighs under 600g - and my pretty blue, Chinese, summer silk sleepliner weighs 155g. Using an Altus raincoat (445g) means that I don't need a backpack cover when it rains.
So, when the basics only weigh about 1,2kg you can't go wrong. Also, shampoo, soaps, toothpaste etc are all those little travel sizes. These can be relplaced along the way.
But remember, this is a summer pack. In winter you might need an extra 1kg or so.
