Hi Peregrino's ,

Along the Camino Frances just after or before Melide (?) there's a little church in Furelo wit a statue of Jesus with his right arm hanging down.
I've never seen this before!
Does anybody know the story behind this statue?

I received the answer from "Krissta" and she mailed me the following:

Here is what I read somewhere about the Crucifix in Furelo --"Reportedly the Crucifix image in Furelos with the right arm extended downwards to give a hand to those at the foot of the Cross was created in the 1400's by a local artist. There is a legend attached to it:

In the year 1512 several Furelo village women were praying together in front of the Crucifix when the image's right arm extended downward towards one of the women and a voice was heard saying: 'You are the only one who has prayed before me with a petition full of love for someone other than yourself. You have asked me to cure your son from his dangerous illness and have offered your own life in exchange for his. I will respect your life and will cure your son." The voice fell silent and the arm remained pointing downward forever."

Nice story,

Paul
