January-February 2023
Greetings all,
I’m finishing a very long road of medical training in the USA at the end of 2022, and my first post-training job has a somewhat flexible start date in February 2023. I’m hoping to use this time off to walk the Camino and take some time to reflect on all that I have been through and learned in training, and on all the things that are coming as I start my independent career. I know that January/February is not a traditionally busy time, and that the weather might not be ideal… although I am from a colder, snowier part of the USA, so the temperatures that I’m finding online don’t seem too intimidating (I’ll be training in colder weather than I’ll be walking in.) I’m flexible on route, although I do want to work with a tour company that will help with logistics.

So, has anyone here had done a winter Camino? Tips on routes or companies to work with that are going to be best for the off season? Any other suggestions at all?

Thanks so much!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I did the Camino Francis in March and encountered snow for two days and rain for the whole day out of Leon but it never bothered me ..there are companies that will forward your luggage to your location on a daily basis so you don't have to drag it along with you but just take a day bag with what you need .. the charge was between 5-7€ and it be waiting for you on your arrival

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I have done 3 jan, feb, march caminos. Its no problem. Bring nice rain gear. Carry snacks. A lot of stuff is closed but you can find a bed for the night always and enough pilgrim and Spanish company to keep you happy.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

I love winter caminos! I have done st Jean to the sea three times in the winter and am starting my fourth on Jan 11. Never had a problem with an albergue or a place to eat. I live in Florida USA and found the temp on the winter camino to be very comfortable. See you in Jan!

Though I did March CF we hit all the weathers possible. The only heads up I will give you is prepare for the headwinds we had 3 weeks straight of them. 🇨🇦🧤

You can check which albergues are open on Gronze. It's in Spanish but if you use the Chrome browser it will automatically translate to English or the language of your choice.
