introduction, question about ebikes

name: Bob Shaver, IdahoPeregrino. Walked the Frances in 2018 with 2 daughters, one at the beginning, one at the end. age 68 in 2018. My wife and I are planning to ebikes from Ponferrada to Santiago in Sept 2025. Wondering about issues charging ebikes at hotels. Seems like most rental bikes have non-removable batteries, so I wonder if ebike riders staying in hotels have problems charging their bikes at outside charging points. Is there a list of bike friendly hotels on the Frances?

Bob, welcome to the forum.
I think that’s a question for the company you’re renting the ebike from rather than the forum, although you may be fortunate to find someone who’s not only ridden the route on an ebike, but also stayed in hotels ( rather than Albergues). We’re a very mixed bunch on here, so you may get lucky!

Just so you are aware, some on here react rather negatively to the notion of ebikes on the Camino unfortunately.

Incidentally, before someone else jumps in, hopefully the rental company has made you aware that, as a ebike riders, you will not qualify for a Compostela ( should that be important to you).

Plenty of bike hire companies renting ebikes. Just rent one with detachable batteries and charge it overnight at the hotel.

As @Peterexpatkiwi says, no Compostela but you may be able to get a distance certificate (unless someone knows otherwise)

I'm not doing it for the Compostela, but I already have one. Yes, walkers don't like bikers, also some perigrinos look down on people starting in Sarria, people using luggage transport, hotel stayers, people who use a taxi once in a while, people who book ahead, etc. When I walked Caminos I mainly wished bikers had bells to announce their passing. Like we say in the backpacking sport, hike your own hike.
