Time of past OR future Camino
Camino De Ingles
Hey everyone,

I live in Lisbon but I don't have the time to do the Camino due to my training etc. but I still want to visit Santiago De Compestela and get an experience and talk to the pilgrims and people who did the walk...

I Just want to know how easy it is to just go out and talk to people in Santiago? Can I just visit a place or something and make friends? And maybe spend the NYE together I'll be there for the 31st and 1st

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I was just wondering!

Thanks!

Rah

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thank you so much for you reply!

Also do you recommend any places in Santiago to stay like hostels maybe to meet people? This is just a solo trip on my own for NYE driving all the way from Lisbon and I want to make the most of it and meeting people is on top of the list

Have a great New Year

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
I went many years ago to Compostela to visit the cathedral, the old city and see what was this "pilgrimage thing" about. When I saw pilgrims hugging each other at Portico de la Gloria, I knew this was what I wanted to do (and I did...four times, since then).
I suggest you take a bus to Lavacolla (the village, not the airport) and walk from there to Santiago; it is just 10 km, but it will give you a taste of the walk (tip: it could be rainy) and see the feelings of the pilgrims: some of them happy, some pensive, or just very tired. It is a very emotional final stage.
As for lodgings, maybe an "albergue turistico" (this is, a mixed place, where pilgrims and tourists are both accepted) will suit you. Albergue Acuario could be an option (available in booking.com). Some albergues offer also private rooms but communal areas.

Holoholo automatically captures your footpaths, places, photos, and journals.

I will be in Santiago for New Year's Eve before heading back to Fromista to continue my Camino, I am more then happy to meet up with you and bore your ears off with pilgrim/hospitalera tales ;-) I will arrive with the bus at 20:00 in Santiago and plan to stay at San Martin Pineiro. Buen Camino de la Vida, SY
