Sometimes you can get signs that you should walk a Camino from the most unexpected places. I was just informed, that apparently I have been paying too much tax the previous year and that the Tax Authorities will be delighted to give me a refund (!). Not a big amount, but by some (divine?) coincidence almost exactly the price I will have to pay for a plane ticket to Bilbao. It was almost like the Tax Authorities told me: “Go walk a Camino, here’s the money for the ticket”. If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is! :)

So I’ll be off in early August.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I know the camino provides, but that is exceptional. Buen camino.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
My mind is like mush - I just cannot remember what I read yesterday. A new airline, the name I cannot remember, is flying from the USA to Europe and had some really inexpensive airfares advertised - New York to Paris $199 round trip. I really wanted to buy tickets to take advantage of the opportunity and then follow your example, Turga, but alas, my Caminos must remain in my mind at the moment. My physical body is not cooperating for allowing walk the Way yet. I will continue to appreciate being regaled with stories from those that are walking this year and keep them in my prayers.
Keep following those signs.

Sometimes those tax authority people actually get it right! And here everyone gives them a bad rap...

I was inspired to walk a Camino in 2012 but had absolutely no way to do it - we were on the wrong side of the Atlantic, had just moved so had no extra money, I had no one who had even heard of the CdS before, etc.

Then, very unexpectedly, Uncle Sam moved us to Germany.

Thank you, God, I could take the hint - and the nudge. I did my first Camino in 2013. Have done 2 more since then.

It's the magic of the Camino!!

Buen Camino!!

It's funny how the Camino becomes a unit of measurement for money, time and other things.

I got an unexpected (and not very exciting) little piece of work last week. My motivation for taking it was that it would pay most of the the cost of my next Camino.
I'll do that work with greater energy and joy as it's linked to something I value more. Win-win!

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 16-19

You might be thinking of Play Airlines. It’s the new airline based in Iceland. They’re definitely offering some extremely low prices! I hope to fly with them for my next Camino! Buen Camino

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I concluded the same thing in the fall. I am in the midst of some major shifts in my life and had been thinking that what I REALLY need is to do the Camino again (did 220 miles of it 23 years ago) and just walk it all out. But I was wary of albergues due to Covid and also the fact that now I'm older and I don't sleep as well as I did back then and tend to like some privacy. But I didn't think I could afford to do it staying in pensiones and hostales as many nights as I can. Then JUST as I was thinking about all this, a former colleague asked if I'd be interested in doing some short-term work for them, and it's work I really enjoy, and it'll be pretty much pay the cost of 35 nights or so in non-albergues. So I decided the Camino has spoken.

Somehow, I doubt the 87,000 new US IRS agents are bring hired entirely for this purpose.
