I am on the GR65. I have heard that the passage through the Pyrenees by the "Col du Somport" is superb and would like to try it. How do I transfer from the Via Podiensis (GR 65 from Le Puy) to the Via Tolosana (GR653 from Arles)?
I have thought about that myself. The routes get very close at one point Here's what I'd do:
--Stay on GR 65 to Navarrenx
--Follow the west side of the river south 7-10 km to GR 78(the Voie de Piedmont) near Prechacq-Josbag
--Continue about 10 km SSE on GR 78 to where it crosses GR 653 at Oloron Ste Marie
Is it really necessary to reserve the gites in France or is it ok just to arrive?
I'm mainly referring to stages from Lourdes - Orolon Sainte Marie- Somport and before end of October
