Hiking boots necessary?

Footwear on the Camino da Costa and Senda Littoral?
We're walking the CdC in September with packs that will be 15lbs or less ( depending on the answer to this question) : Are high caliber hiking shoes sufficient on the Coastal route or would those of you have done it recommend boots ?

Jeff,
Methinks you're " sort of correct". I'm a new member having trouble knowing how to post a question and so having somehow lucked into posting a question about Hostels and Alberques I posted the cobblestones question. If you can direct me to posting instructions ( forDummies ) I'd appreciate it.
