Has anyone flown into San Sebastian and travelled from there to San Jean?

Time of past OR future Camino
May to July, 2014
Does anyone have travel advice, train / bus connection advice, on how to get from San Sebastian to San Jean a Pied? It looks like a three leg trip: San Sebastian to Hendaye, Hendaye to Bayonne, Bayonne to San Sebastian, but I'd appreciate any details.

I haven't worked out all the details. I haven't checked the Ekialdebus links from the EAS airport site.

A major factor is the flight from Madrid is expensive. EAS is not well connected.

PESA and CONDA offers bus service from San Sebastian airport to Biarritz and Biarritz airport. I haven't checked if it goes into Bayonne or where it would stop if it did (I haven't found a central bus station in Bayonne ... just bus stops). (The ALSA bus from Madrid stops in town center about 1/2 mile from Gare de Bayonne)

From Biarritz airport its #14 local bus (Chronoplus) to Gare to Bayonne. TER 62 is the train to SJPdP from Bayonne.

Another route is to get local Ekialdebus from San Sebastian (see access links on San Sebastian Airport) and intersect with Euskotren. The Euskotren connects with SNCF trains at Hendaye (Hendaia).

A bus (ALSA) from San Sebastian to Bayonne takes 1 h 15 min. €10.
Note that San Sebastian airport is about 2-3 km from Irun (much closer to Irun than to the centre of San Sebastian)

Don't let over-enthusiasm to cause you to run straight out of San Sebastian! Its a sweet little Basque port with the best tapas you will find north of Barcelona. There is an early morning train from San Sebastian stopping momentarily at Haydene-you cross through a bungalow and get directly onto the French train- there is a bus from the Bayonne train station to SJPP. Check times it must have changed since I went through there but is no problem at all.

Yes! It took me about an hour to walk from San Sebastian airport to the Hendaye Station. (I consider it starting 'my' camino from the airport!) The train connections are simple, easy, and inexpensive. Buen Camino!

I took a bus from San Sebastián (Plaza de Pio XII) to Bayonne. That left me a short walk from the Bayonne train station.

I enjoyed a night in Bayonne before catching the morning train to SJPP.
