Going Postal – Containers

Hi

Posting gear ahead on the trail has become an option during the research of my way.

My question is in regard to the packaging the post office will accept.

One technique available is a bounce bucket/bounce box, where a plastic container eg. a cleaned 5 gallon paint container (or some such other size) is used. This bucket is then sent ahead via post to the next postal point where the bucket with equipment/clothes/gear can be picked up. You then exchange what is needed gear wise and post ahead again to the next pickup postal point.

The reasoning behind a plastic bucket is durability and reuse, instead of non reusable pre sized post office containers.

Estimated weight is 2.5-3.5 kg

What size containers do the postal services accept? Would they accept a plastic bucket?

Thanks

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I don't see why not. They sell folding boxes that contain luggage of up to 20kg.
Physical characteristics
Small box 230 x 140 x 80 mm
Medium box 317 x 215 x 125 mm
Large box 390 x 280 x 190 mm
Extra large* box 590 x 390 x 390 mm
Trapezoid box Adjustable box
Last year they were even accepting bicycles in boxes!

I mailed a carryon size suitcase only after finding out at he post office that it needed to be wrapped. I was able to find a store that sold heavy brown wrapping paper and tape and they accepted it with no problem. I think the bucket is a good idea because the label can be taped directly to it.
