Getting to St Jean Pied de Port

Time of past OR future Camino
August 2024
Hi Everyone
New to this forum and appreciating it. I arrive in Bilbao on 28th August at around 9.30 am and planning to get to SJPD in one day. The alternatives, I've researched so far include a number of different bus companies, trains. Alsa Pesa, Flixbus, Blabla.
Not sure whether to take the bus from bilbao station which has a 3 hour journey to Bayonne, or take the buses that go via Donostia San Sebastian. from Bilbao airport Will look at discussion threads to help with this, but wondered if anyone has experienced something similar

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Is there a short flight available from Bilbao to Biarritz? It is a one hour taxi from the airport to SJPdP.

My normal practice is to find three other Peregrinos leaving the airport and ask if they would share a taxi, which I have already engaged. Whatever the cost, split it 4 ways and you're there in an hour.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
You can get an Alsa bus from central Bilbao to IrĂșn at 11am after taking bus from airport to the centre.
Then walk across the bridge into Hendaye (France) train station and get local train to Bayonne in plenty of time for connection to SJPDP.

I took the BLaBla bus from San Sebastian and then the train to SJPP in one day. Although the train was full and they put us on a bus instead. Worked fine. Seemed the simplest option.

I would just take the Blabla bus from Bilbao to Bayonne and then the train to SJPP. Many trains each day. Change dates and scroll down to review the various choices:

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
