Le Puy to sjpdp, next planned Norte.
I plan to start Norte from Irun Sept 15. Flying from Canada, seems I can choose Paris or Madrid as the closest international airports. Then choices are to connect fly, take a train, or bus. Wondering the simplest options. Any advise.

I made that trip this year from the US. The San Sebastian airport is actually iright outside Irun. I arrived in Madrid in the early morning, got a flight to San Sebastian, and then walked the two or three kms from the San Sebastian airport into Irun. Very easy.

As Peregrina says above, San Sebastian airport is actually in Irún! Otherwise, if I had to choose Madrid or Paris as a stopover, I would choose Madrid; you have several trains a day, and if you plan in advance, you might get a ticket for just 20 euro, which is a bargain for a 6 hour train trip.

Other alternatives are

Bilbao airport
Biarritz airport (in France)
Train to Hendaye from Paris (pretty much the same town as Irun, only river Bidasoa separates the two towns)
Burdeaux airport

But, really, I would go by train, via madrid. you can get your train ticket via renfe.es

Buen camino!
