Getting to Cruz de Ferro from el camino del norte

Hola a todos,
I plan to walk the el camino del norte starting next May. I would like to know how to go about dipping south to the cruz de ferro, probably by bus? I would like to retrieve and replace the rock I left there last year. I am curious to see if I could even find it. I would then like to go back to the northern route and carry on. Has anyone ever sucessfully retrieved his/her rock? Where is the most sensible place to do this by bus? I don't mind walking of course at either end. Thanks for your suggestions. mg

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I was afraid of disturbing a stacked rock from a cross, waymark, or trail-side pile for fear of bringing down the wrath of a coven of Galician witches and warlocks. What if they don't like Indian givers (that slur coming from a Cherokee, whose tribe does not have potlatches)?

Good luck pillaging the rocks at the Iron Cross!!!

You could get a bus from Oviedo to Astorga and then walk to Rabanal (21km). The next day you walk to the Cruz, find your rock, and back - 8km each way. Then you could get a bus from Rabanall to Ponferrada and back up to Oviedo.

Thanks for the itinerary Sil. Sounds doable but maybe fruitless. Regardless, I would like to see the cruz again. I would replace the rock with another as to not leave the pile with one less. Funny things we/I think about between caminos....
