Getting from Lisbon airport to Sao Bento station in Porto

Time of past OR future Camino
August 2024
Hi - I'm seeing a few different options for getting from the Lisbon airport to Sao Bento station in Porto, but it's hard to determine the best option. Wondering if anyone has experience to share on this? I land in Lisbon at 11:30 am local time, and would like to get on a train to Porto from the airport. I will have a large suitcase in addition to my pack, so would prefer to avoid transfers if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Or you could take the bus from the airport to the city. Autobus #1 leaves from just outside the front of the rather small terminal. Pay the driver, 3 busses per hour (in 2016). If I remember correctly, the forth stop is Rossio. One option is Rossio Hostel, it is across from Parca dom Pedro about one block south of the national theater. Spend a day or two seeing Lisbon. You won't be disappointed. Then take the train to Porto (from Santa Apolonia train station).

As jungleboy mentioned, take the metro from Lisbon airport to Oriente station. You can then catch either the high speed or Intercidades train to Porto Campanhã station. At Campanhã station you will need to change platforms for the train to São Bento station which run very frequently and take just a couple of minutes to arrive at São Bento. There are escalators down and up between the platforms.

on Sept 9th, I am starting my Camino from Lisbon to Santiago. I'll take a taxi or bus or tram from the airport to the Cathedral SE in Lisbon to start my walk. Hope to see you along the Way.

And the train from Campanha to São Bento is at no additional charge . . .

Take the Metro to Oriente or Santa Appolonia station. Pre-book the train on the CP (Comboios de Portugal) app. The train goes to Campanha a very small station. Then catch the Urban train to Sao Bento station. No problem with your luggage. There are no direct trains only that one transfer. Eazy!

You can take the metro to Trinidad (all metrolines stop there) and switch to line D (orange) which stops at station Sao Bento. The metrostation at Trinidad’s is small so you don’t have to walk much to another platform (if required)

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
