It is. I walked with a German for my first week and that damn guide was spot on almost to the minute. It actually started to get too prescriptive for me as it has every detail possible. I like the occasional surprise. But it also gave accommodation options that I hadn't seen anywhere else eg the pension in Calzadilla.I have heard that the German guide to the Via de la Plata is excellent and very detailed. Can someone please confirm this for me?
As a point of interest, is the German Yellow Guide for the VDLP in English?
No, but I think it is useful even if I do not speak much German. As a point of interest, is the German Yellow Guide for the VDLP in English?

Hello Ranthr:There are I guess several German guidebooks for VdLP , I used the red ROTHERGUIDE in 2011 and found out that the the yellow OUTDOOR guide was more updated and had better maps and
description. So if I go again, I will bring the yellow outdoor guide.

John, I buy the German guidebooks on www.amazon.de. I have used the Le Puy, GR65, guide, the GR653 guide, and have studied a number of others when I wanted to start walking from Denmark. They all look ok for my use. On the Frances I only bring Brierleys mapbook.Hello Ranthr:
Thanks for the info. I think I found the Red Rother guide but not the Yellow outdoor guide. Do you know where this may exist? When I walked the Camino Frances last year on my own, I did not make a lot of planning everyday. All I wanted to know was how far I was expected to walk and how many Bars were along that way. If I came across something interesting it was totally by surprise. The Bierley guide and myself did not get along well. John
I am walking at the moment with the German Outdoor guide (yellow book) the Via de la Plata and it is badly out of date ~3 years.

Hola SY - so after promising for some 5 or more years Alison is finally going to get an updated edition of her much vaunted 2005 edition of the Guide to the VDLP. I gave up waiting for the new one - Cecerone kept promising through most of 2012 and early 2013 before finally admitting that they did not know when the next edition would be available. An updated version of the German Yellow book would also be useful - just have a German/English dictionary ap and log-on via the nearest wifi. Cheers.I am walking at the moment with the German Outdoor guide (yellow book) the Via de la Plata and it is badly out of date ~3 years. Alison Raju is walking the Via de la Plata a few days ahead of me to update her Cicerone guide and if you have the time to wait for its publication that one would be my first choice for a printed guide book.
