Furanchos

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 16-19
What a lovely thing! I can't believe this hasn't been discussed on this forum before now. Thank- you! I will be looking out for this for sure! If they are still going in September. Any one know the approximate 3 months the furanchos are open? Same as wine producing months, of course, but what is that usually? July, August and September?

If you look at the Guia linked from the article it has the opening dates and times for each of the furnachos (as well as the menu). The one I looked at seemed to be open in the spring, so different ones may be open in different months.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Ok, thanks, I got it. Nothing at this point will be open as long as September, but it looks like that could change. I will keep an eye out on the Guia.

I just read this myself and wanted to share because I love to immerse myself in the culture around the Way, and this cultural custom had gone unnoticed to me until reading this fantastic post. Thank you for sharing it here!

"Today, there’s a set of rules that determine when a furancho can open (for no longer than three months, and no later than July 31), what dishes can be served and how many (five, from a government approved list of 11) and what drinks can be poured (wine, water, and sweetened carbonated water, but no liquor, beer or soda)."

It's very charming and another nice way to support the local economy. The article is about a 3 minute read and well worth it if you love Galicia! I may need to shift my walking dates from September to June lol
