Planning to do the Camino portugues on June 2019
Hi All,
I am currently planning my camino portugues from Oporto for next June 2019 by running the whole 240 km.
Here is my initial running plan :
Porto Barcelos 53.8 KM
Barcelos Rubiaes 51.9 KM
Rubiaes Redondela 48.1 KM
Redondela Padron 61 KM
Padron Santiago de Compostela 23 KM

I am a runner, with some experiences on marathons, trails and ultra trails, so I am not questioning about the feasibility , my questions are more regarding how to manage the accommodation, should we book alberges ahead of time? what is the most suitable time to arrive and find a decent place to sleep?
how to manage issues if the alberge is full? as I will travel with very limited materiel (less than 3kg), I will not carry any sleeping bag or fluff.
many thanks

I've just returned from walking the Portuguese route from Porto two days ago. It was unusually crowded this September, as even the alburgue and other staff in accommodations will agree. There was a tension present each day regarding bed availability and we encountered some that were turned down. I've no idea what June will bring as far as camino traffic, but if you aren't carrying gear for sleep and shower, your best bet would be smaller hotels or private albergues with reservations ahead. You will at least have bed linens and towels and promise of a bed without that stress.
I can't see where it would be too difficult to book 5 places.
I was curious if you planned to get a credential and seek a compostela? Wondering how many stamps you would need to prove your distance by foot each day ( otherwise would look like a bus trip with only 4 stamps )

thanks Sophie for replying to me.
I actually do not plan to get a credential, I am not going to collect any stamps at all, but this is a personal decision ;)
I will consider the booking of hotel or private albergue ahead of timeto avoid the stress as you mentioned.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I highly recommend the private Albergue Corredoiras ( 16EU ) in Padron...It is the most well thought out, modern albergue on the entire trek AND THEY WASH,DRY, FOLD YOUR LAUNDRY, included in the price! It's all individual bunks that have real mattresses and real linens with privacy curtains, towels and a locking locker...you won't be disappointed!

If you do not plan on getting a credential and stamps, I do not think the alburgues (at least the municipal ones) will let you stay. How would they know you are pilgrim? I'd check with the private alburgues on their requirements--some of them can be even stricter than the municipals. Hotels and pensions seems like a reasonable (and perhaps your only) alternative. You are mostly planning to stop in larger cities (except Rubiaes), so they should be available.

Buen Camino,
Jo Jo

Thank you all for the feedback, I will study the path along with my stops ahead of time and book accordingly hostels or private albergues.
