Hi, I am landing in Bilbao on July 1 at 17:30 pm. Should I spend the night in Bilbao or is there a bus I can catch to Baritzz or Bayone? What is the easiest way to get to SJPP from Bilbao? I need to be in SJPP July 2 as I have reservations.

I would spend the night in Bilbao, a good hotel is San Mames which is very close to the bus terminal. You can take a bus from the Bilbao airport to the city bus terminal for about 1.5 Euros, there is a bus every day (except Sunday) at 7:30 from the Bilbao bus terminal arriving in Bayonne at 10:30. The bus terminus in Bayonne is not a long walk to the train station and there are trains to Saint Jean Pied de Port several times in the afternoon. Buen Camino!

jherrick,

There is no need for you to go Biarritz. Alsa buses list an evening bus on July 1 from Bilbao to Bayonne at 18:45. The price is 54 euros. See this English Alsa timetable for more information >> http://www.alsa.es/en/ In Bayonne you might spend the night in a small hotel such as the Monte Carlo. See >> http://hotel-montecarlo.allcommerces.com/. This is near the Gare SNCF and convenient for the morning TER line 62 train to SJPdP the next day. The TER train price is roughly 10 euros. There is no need to book the TER ahead since it is open seating like a tram or the metro. If there is space you sit; if not you stand.

Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

FYI, the Pesa bus (Pesa.net) from Bilbao to Bayonne costs only 19.8 Euros and they are never crowded and you buy your ticket at the terminal the night before your departure. So my question would be why stress out with such a short connection time to make the ALSA bus which gets to Bayonne at night? When you could enjoy an evening Bilbao.

The simplest solution is to cancel your Bilbao ticket and fly to Biarritz instead.
