Hi All,
I will be travelling to SJPP from Barcelona to start the Camino. Does anyone know the quickest way to do this? I will need to get there in 1 day.
Thanks for your help!
Jess

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 16-19
What time of the year? After late May new bus route(s) are added from Pamplona.

In 2011, I took the bus from Barcelona Sants Station to Pamplona and then the Express Bouricott 4:30pm ride to SJPDP. However, I believe Express Bouricott (French based transportation company) is not operating anymore this route. I preferred the bus because it was more direct/convenient than train. I got to SJPDP with time to get to the Office of Pilgrim and see a bit of the town.

I will be there in mid June. I had heard that if I can get to Pamplona it is fairly easy to get to SJPP. I will start there and see what I come up with from Pamplona then.
Thanks.

4 options

1. Barcelona (Sants) SNCF train to Toulouse. Toulouse to Bayonne. SNCF TER 62 Bayonne to SJPdP. TER 62 usually runs 4 times per day.

2. Barcelona (Sants) Renfe train to Irun/Hendaye. Transfer SNCF train Irun/Hendaye to Bayonne. SNCF TER 62 to SJPdP. Irun and Hendaye are train stations 3 km apart. It is possible to connect using Euskotren commuter train that runs hourly.

Note that an end run might be possible by travelling from Barcelona to Miranda del Ebro (where trains from all over Spain converge and so run more frequently) and then to Irun.

Option 1 and 2 take about 12 hours travel time either way ... so its dependent on your travel plans which is better.

3. Fly from Barcelona to San Sebastian Airport. The airport is almost co-located with Irun train station. SNCF train to Bayonne. SNCF TER 62 to SJPdP.

4. Renfe train or ALSA bus from Barcelona to Pamplona. There is seasonal bus service from Pamplona bus station to SJPdP provided by Conda. See international schedule on ALSA website. At time of writing one bus per day 1730 17 March - 30 September 2014. Purchase ticket at Pamplona. There were 3 buses at times summer 2013.

Barcelona Airport:

There is a shuttle connecting all terminals.

ALSA bus departs from Barcelona airport T1 and T2.

Rodalies Renfe Cercanius connects from Airport T2 to Barcelona Sants (20 minutes).
