Forwarding a package ahead by a week (vs. daily or to Santiago)

Time of past OR future Camino
I will begin my first Camino experience in Sarrria arriving February 18, 2017
Hello friends!

My name is Kelly (aka SonderWithMe) and I’m going to be starting the Camino from SJPP on September 26th - so excited (and a little nervous)!!! 😁

Anyway, I’m wondering if it’s possible to send a package ahead by a week (instead of day-by-day or all the way to Santiago) so that I have intermittent access to things that I need to restock or switch out from time to time throughout the hike…? For example, my real journal is quite heavy, but if I don’t stop and update it along the way, I’m afraid that it just won’t happen at all. So I’m thinking that I’d like to bring a mini notebook to jot things down in so I don’t forget, and then maybe once a week or so stop and have a rest day during which I could catch up on my real journal.

Is it possible to forward something to a specific town/city if I have a rough estimate, but don’t know exactly which day I will that place? Any advice would be very much appreciated! 🙏

Also, if anyone else is going to be starting around the same time, I’d love to hear from you and connect, so please feel free to reach out!!

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Yes, you can do that. You send to a Correos (post office) farther ahead using their Paq Peregrino service.

While this is primarily focused on mailing direct to Santiago, you can use the service to mail to Correos locations along the Camino.

Do check the hours of the location that you plan to send to.

The small towns may not have these kind of services so probably need to choose larger towns. Also if you are starting in SJPDP, you will be in France and won't be able to ship to Spain until you reach a larger town in Spain. Just some things to keep in mind. You can ship the first day with Express Bouricott to Roncesvalles, but may need to ship day by day from there using a pack transfer service like Correos or Jacotrans until you reach Pamplona. In Pamplona you can ship to yourself in larger town like Logroño, but make sure the post office will be open so you aren't hanging around waiting to ship or receive. Pilgrim schedules are not always the same as business schedules.

You will have to carry the extra items with you to Spain though, possibly as far as Pamplona before you get to a post office that you can use for forwarding. Thus your pack may have to be bigger than you hoped.

Edit: Janet wins this one.

But also, do you really want to risk losing your main journal in the mail?

Really, the best thing to do is to leave those heavy items at home. A lot that we learn on the Camino is what we can do without.
