The Cultural-Routes of Europe report that from June 28th till July 1st 2008, the Second International Conference of lovers of East-West roads will take place in Lublin.
The historical roads in Eastern Poland have connected Lublin with Cracow, the ancient Polish capital city, and with Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. In the same way, Lublin has been linked with the emporia in Wroclaw, Lviv and Kiev by parts of the VIA REGIA – Major Cultural Route of the Council of Europe as well as with Christian pilgrimage places in Santiago de Compostela, Jerusalem and Rome.
Because of these road links, Lublin could benefit from two essential cultural areas: “the Western one to which Poles belong since the 10th century and the Eastern one which they are similar. Our support to these European roads aims at emphasising the historical role of Lublin as the meeting point of the Western with the Eastern.”, says Janusz Kopaczek, the president of the association.
In order to support the revitalisation of historical routes by the biggest city eastwardly of the Vistula, the 2nd International Conference of Lovers of East-West roads will take place in Lublin from June 28th till July 1st 2008. The event is organised by the association of cultural tourism “the West – the East” of Lublin.
“We invite all interested people, especially those who travel along historical routes. We hope that the aficionados of these routes will meet together willingly to exchange their opinions, plan their future travels and encourage others to begin such travels. We also warmly invite representatives of various organisations such as associations, cultural centres, tourist entrepreneurs, administrators of tourist attractions, etc. who are involved in the reactivation and development of historical routes.“
The main part of the event will take place in the Cultural Centre in Lublin (Centrum Kultury – 12, Peowiaków Street); You will also find there the reception desk which will be open on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. on.
