Finally leaving home tomorrow, on the Camino by Saturday, Dv

Dear Fellow pilgrims

Tomorrow evening I finally leave for Heathrow, Stansted and, eventually, God willing, St Jean! If all goes well I shall start walking from there on Saturday. I can't wait! But am also a little nervous since, despite all the advice I got from all over I have been unable to get the weight of my rucksack down to what people on the web site advocate, namely 7 or 8 kilos! Have also only walked bits in preparation, no very long distances. But am healthyand quite an experienced walker, although never as far as the Camino fRances, of course. Oh well, we'll find out soon enough whether it will be all right. At any rate, I am determined to take things very slowly initially, and to 'go with the flow' and not be compulsive. I like the idea I read somewhere - one of the guidebooks or here? - that one is a pilgrim, not a tourist, and that one's basic perspective must be gratitude for what is received and encountered.

I hope to meet lots of you along the wayand wish everyone a blessed Camino.

Regards
Christine from South Africa

Hi Christine

Lucky you! I leave a week from Sunday and can hardly wait as well. Like you I have prepared as I could but there comes a time when you just have to do it.

I am sure you will have a wonderful time.

“A pilgrim does not demand, a pilgrim is grateful. He leaves what he can and takes only that which he needs.”

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always on your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rain fall soft upon your fields and,
until your journey's end,
May God hold you safely in the palm of his hand.

Have a safe journey
