We walked from Le-Puy-en-Velay to Conques in October 2015. We wanted to share some of our favourite accommodation.
St Privat d'Allier: La Cabourne
We had a double room with bathroom. Supper and breakfast. Clean and spacious room, gracious hosts, delicious food, and a cool hiking boot closet with a ventilation system! Read about our day and the gite here.
Chanaleilles: Domaine du Sauvage
Double room with shared bathroom. Supper and breakfast. Lovely views, historic and cultural centre, delicious food (it's a farmer co-operative), clean room, and the history of the grounds and building after supper. You can drop in for lunch or a coffee break during the day. Read about our day and the gite here.
Aumont-Aubrac: Aubrac-Rando
They have two apartments, one for 2-5 people, the other for 2 people. We stayed in Le Duo for 2 people, a lovely little apartment with kitchen and breakfast included. We shopped for groceries at the epicerie in town a short walk away and for dessert at the boulangerie around the corner. Gracious hosts, and if you're in a pinch for equipment, there is a hiking store downstairs. Read about our day and the gite here.
Golinhac (Le Massip): L'Orée du Chemin
Double room with bathroom. Supper and breakfast. The hosts were out of this world friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and abundant and uses local products from the farm. A must stay! Read about our day and the gite here.
Conques: L'hôtellerie des Pèlerins
We had a double room with bathroom. Supper and breakfast. Walking into Conques was one of the highlights of our trip. Staying at the abbey was worth it even though the food was very uneven (unappetizing first course, burned store-bought lasagna, but a great cheese course, and wine!). The room was quiet and had a great view. We attended vespers in the evening. The hosts (volunteers) were welcoming and friendly. Read about our day and the gite here.
Susan and René.
