2024 - Portuguese (Coastal > Central > Spiritual)
My husband @RodrigoD and I really benefitted from all the advice we got from members of this forum. Paying it forward, we wanted to share some of our favorite spots to sleep along the Portuguese:

SectionTownLodgingReason it was a favorite
CoastalVila do CondeVenceslau Wine Hostellocation, splurge
CentralS. Pedro de RatesCasa Anabelalocation, host, splurge
CentralLugar do CorgoCasa da Fernandacommunity, host
CentralRubiaesCasa Sao Sebastiaocommunity, host

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Recommendations for some of the central
* Tomar, Hostel 2300 Thomar (cool graffiti on walls, breakfast included, central location)
* Alvaiazere, Albergue Pinheiro (single room, cool stamp, good breakfast)
" Alvorge, Albergue O Lagareiro ,(cozy vibe, friendly host, curtains on beds)
* Coimbriga, Albergue de Coimbriga (it has a pool)
* Coimbra, Rainha Santa Isabel (only 10 euro, old building, friendly host)

Agree with Rubiaes. It had a pool, friendly host who did my laundry for me for 3 euro, a garden to relax in, I would happily stay there again.

Hi, this is useful as I may walk the Portuguese again next year. The only place I stayed in on your list was Casa da Fernanda. One I'd recommend would be Quinta Sao Miguel de Arcos, very nice indeed.

Some of my favorites on the central route in Portugal after Porto:
Casa da Rosa - Barcelos
Casa de Santiago - Arborim
Casa Fernanda - Vitorino
Casa de Sao Sebastian - Rubieas
Hostal Bulwark - Valenca
Albergue del Convento - Tui
Albergue Fonte - O Porrino
D Paso - Pontevedra
Albergue Vintecatro - Tivo
Albergue Corredoiras - Padron
Albergue Milladoiro - Milladoiro

Hi Paula, my friend and I walked from Lisbon last May - I did a day by day blog if you are interested - polarsteps.com/lindaleslie23. I think I mentioned our accomodation each day. Really enjoyed it - glad we started in Lisbon. Bom caminho, linda

Hi Linda, thanks so much for the message. I actually found your blog some months back and thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and have it bookmarked to refer back to later. I was super interested as you are from Adelaide. I am based in Melbourne. I've have taken a couple of tips from your blog already! I was also really pleased to read that you enjoyed it and found it worthwhile starting in Lisbon. You have some amazing photos too! Paula

Hi Paula, glad you enjoyed it! I guess we were expecting tedious and boring from some of the comments we had read before going so our bar was set quite low😆 we were pleasently surprised and took it as it came - there will always be some bits that aren't as picturesque as others. Very envious of you heading off soon - enjoy! Linda

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
My favourite Albergues on the CP (mix of litoral and central):

Esposende: Sleep and Go (small dorms and a nice pool)
Viana do Castelo: Albergue Sao Joao
A Cancela: Albergue Portela (outstanding experience)
Milladoiro: Albergue Milladoiro

Thanks Paul, I have heard some very negative things so it's lovely to hear people's positive experiences. I read Linda's fantastic blog and that of also Elle Beiling and they both convinced me that it will be great. I'm very excited.

Thanks Linda, I've heard similar, but I'm very excited to be walking through Portugal, can't wait!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
