Hi,
I am travelling down to the camino frances by train (need to take some time) and am commencing by Eurostar (St Pancras to Paris).
Can anyone who has done this tell me about security checks on that train, are they like by air viz:
Are walking poles packed in a backpack ok?
What about liquids - in plastic bags?
Medical scissors as in 1st Aid packs?
Anything else such as insect repellent sprays?
Look forward to hearing from someone who has done this in the last year or so.
Thanks.

Hola

All the things you mention are not a problem on the train.
In fact, I cannot remember any security check at Paris getting on board. Maybe my memory got this wrong, but unless you bring something completely odd there will be no problem.

Buen camino

There is def. a security check in London and Brussels but yes everything the OP mentions is ok!

Its not like on plains. I can buy a set of steakknifes is London and without a problem take them home via Eurostar :)

Also no fluid restrictions ect..

On an irrelevant aside, if it is permitted.

If you are planning on eating in England, where the food in so many supposed fine dining places is quite frankly ghastly, then I can see why you might need steak knives.

A steak, properly matured and cooked, should almost be capable of being cut with a fork.

In Europe I have never been served a chunk of dead cow's bottom that needed a steak knife.

The shoe leather, as too often dished up here in Britain, is an insult to the animal from which it came!

On another irrelevant side, i've had steaks on the camino that needed a chainsaw to cut..... Or...some were sooo thin, you could read a newspaper trough them :)

Richeyboy, I took poles and a knife on Eurostar just a few months ago and it was still OK then. No restrictions on liquids either. My most urgent advice to you would be to have your breakfast in the lovely mall at St Pancras before you check in, because once through security it's quite crowded and grim and there's not much choice as to where to buy your coffee!

You cannot carry a knife with a blade of more than 3 inches and it must not be a lock knife.
If you have a knife keep it handy for inspection at security.

Thanks everybody for your help and as I am catching a very early train thanks too, Metropolly, for the advice re breakfast. (Also, irrelevantly, I will remember not to eat steaks in Wessex!).

Thanks for the advice about breakfast Metropolly, I'm leaving St Pancras on 12th August so will be sure to enjoy my breakfast there.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Thanks SabineP! Looks like I'll be stopping at Patisserie Valerie, nothing like a freshly baked pastry and coffee to get me on my way :)

Aaah, Patisserie Valerie - for over four years I lived within 200 yards of the original PV in Soho. Made for a great start to the day before heading off to work!

Also, irrelevantly, I will remember not to eat steaks in Wessex!.

D@mn right, richeboy! And you can include duck breast in that statement as another item that is routinely ruined hereabouts!

Eurostar conducts security checks prior to boarding regardless of point of embarkation. All bags are put through scanners and passengers must pass through metal detectors. @SabineP gave a very useful link concerning prohibited items. Walking poles are not a problem. :)

Hello! I’ve been browsing the forum and there’s plenty of info for baggage transfers from stage to stage, where you pick it up daily, give it back and move on, however what I’m after is a service...
