Greetings.

I want to confirm to earn the Compestela while walking the CP, one must start at least from Valenca/Tui, right? I just want to be sure I am budgeting enough walking time.

Thanks in advance.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

Yes you have to make a full walk at least 100 kms to Santiago de Compostela to earn your Compostela certificate.
In case of the caminho Português starting in Valença do Minho or Tui will do .

Tui is where most of the Spanish "pilgrims" start from, just as another large tranche starts from Sarria... It is just beyond the 100 Km threshold for qualifying for a Compostela.

Like Sarria, Tui has good bus and rail connections. It is the "Sarria" on the Camino Portuguese...for the "Camino Quickie" folks... thank you Rebekah for the colloquial term - I love it...;)

That said, I really liked Tui. It is a beautiful city with an interesting Cathedral, lots of places to stay, and plenty of support services for pilgrims.

In April 2015, I walked out of Tui on the early morning after Easter, in the dark. I could not see the yellow arrows well, so I just asked people heading to their cars to go to work where the Camino was. Everyone pointed me in the correct direction. After 30 minutes or so, there was enough growing daylight for me to see the markers....whew!

I hope this helps.
