Does anyone know the distance for this option and if it has any places to eat/drink.

Here is the Guemes Santander link.

You will see distances /profile and some options.

There are few shops immediately after Guemes but there are bars for coffee etc.

Santander had everything.

There is no shop in Boo.

The coastal route from Güemes to Somo is about 15kms. From there, you get the boat to Santander. There are bars in Somo and Santander has all the services of a big city.

From Santander to Boo via the coastal path is 31kms. It's a beautiful walk that can be broken by staying in Sota de la Marina. You can read more about it on this thread. A long thread, but full of really useful information.

Happy planning and Buen Camino!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
From Güemes to Santander is 12, if you choose the varianta costera (recomendable) maybe 15 km.
The next stage changed 2017 officially. It now turns left shortly before Boo de Pielagos and is about 8 km longer than the old one until Santillana del Mar. Now avoiding the bridge crossing at Boo which is strictly pohibited.
But anyway: You can continue to Boo de Pielago wich is about 12 km from Santander, sleep there and decide if you want to continue the old route (using the train to Estación de Mogro) or follow the new official route via Puente de Arce.
Yes, the way out of Santander is not inspiring (like most of the outskirts of big cities) and the above mentioned costal route to Boo obviously is more pitouresque. But beside of the extra kms I doubt that it is clearly marked.
You have to decide though.

¡Ultreia!
