Is there a difference in the cost pr. day if I go in May vs if I go in September?
Or will the cost (accommedation, food etc.) be more or less the same in these 2 periods?
On the less travelled caminos, there may be less of a choice in acommodation in the winter, since cheap albergues may not be open while hotels that aim at business travellers may be. May and September should be quite similar, though.
You must also consider your own fitness level and heat/cold tolerance. While walking another 7 km to get to a cheaper place may be perfectly fine, you may not want to do that if it's very hot or cold. And weather in Spain is getting less predictable.
There are high and low season rates in many hoteles, hostales, and pensiones. However, both May and September will be in the high season. Both months have about the same number of pilgrims.accommedation,
