Cycling from Gijón

Time of past OR future Camino
2024 VDLP
Hi! I'm planning to bike the VDLP in September, most likely from Gijón (More likely Santander due to flight connections). I mostly choose the VDLP due to the good road sections, I have no gravel/mountain bike so road is ideal for me. I have two main questions to clarify still:
- Do you have any thoughts on reversing the order of the vdlp, so from north to south?
- And can I still apply for the Camino passport and use it in albergues, or is this considered rude/cheating? I wouldn't want to upset others of course!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I think you may be confused between the Via de la Plata and the Camino del Norte……the route and towns you describe are on the Camino del Norte which heads east to west. No problem with using a credential to stay in Albergues if you are on a bicycle, good luck !

Reverse of this one? Not sure about the Credential as you are going away from Santiago rather than travelling towards it.

Hola Jeroen,

The FEVE railway runs along the north coast, takes bikes, is slow and can be used to arrive at your starting point after your flight. As a roadie you will follow the N630 which starts in Gijón and finishes in Sevilla. There's no reason not to use a Credencial as a souvenir of your ride but I don't think it will gain you a Compostela. September can / will still be hot in Andalucia so maybe think about starting a couple of weeks later. Richard
