Cutting it too fine?

Hi all,

I land in Biarritz from LDN Stansted at 17:05 on Sunday 26th July.

Will I make the last train from Bayonne to Saint Jean Pied de Port, which departs at 18:06?

I would be happy to catch a taxi from the airport to the train station to save time!

Or is this cutting it too fine?

Thanks in advance, Dan

P.S. The next best alternative seems to be taxi-pooling from Biarritz to St Jean. If anybody else is facing the same dilemma, I'd be happy to share!

Hi Dan. I guess it depends on whether or not your flight is on time. It's a small airport so if you have to wait for bags it shouldn't be too long. You may well meet other pilgs who will be in a similar position, so I'd say the chances of sharing a taxi are good if it comes to that. Go with the flow. Good luck!

Cheers. Go with the flow... I like the sound of that.

I will only have carry on luggage.

So if flights are on time and I catch a quick taxi it sounds plausible?

Will it be too late to land accomodation if I'm arriving in SJPdP after 8pm?

From memory I'm thinking about 25 mins from airport to station in the bus, but others might correct me. The pilgrim office will be open for the last train and these kind people will find you a bed. Although it's mid summer it's not the peak time for pilgrims leaving SJPP (September will be busier) so I'm sure they'll be coping ok.

You are cutting it fine. I'd allow a half hour to get off the plane, collect bags, and get through customs.

One factor to consider is the train from Bayonne waits for the train from Paris. Sometimes the train from Paris is late. But it is not a factor to rely on.

You might try going by taxi from Biarritz airport to Gare Biarritz and catch an SNCF train to Gare Bayonne. Sked is dep 1741 - arr 1749.

You might try a taxi direct to Gare Bayonne.

For sure the Chronoplus bus will not get there in time ... it takes 40 minutes from Biarritz airport to Gare Bayonne. It will only work if the train from Bayonne leaves late.

You might try contacting Express Bourricot. They are a private hire taxi company based in St Jean PdP. They specialize in catering to pilgrims and coordinate shared service to cut the price.

You will need a plan B.

Contact Caroline at Express Bourricot on the web. Ring her, she speaks perfect English. If she has a seat free this will be faster and work out cheaper than Bus/train or taxi/train.

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Another vote for Caroline, she is fantastic. She drove me from SJPDP to Pamplona at very short notice for a very reasonable price. She also picked us up at the airport in Biarritz and took us to SJPDP. There were 5 of us all up and she split the cost 5 ways and refused to take a tip.

Hi I'm travelling to Burgos to walk part of the Camino Frances next year and my options seems to be fly into Santander and coach to Burgos, or fly into Madrid, then coach to Burgos. Don't think...
Hello! I’ve been browsing the forum and there’s plenty of info for baggage transfers from stage to stage, where you pick it up daily, give it back and move on, however what I’m after is a service...
