Current conditions on the Litoral out of Porto? (May 2022)

I'm looking for news and tips from people walking the beach/waterfront route out of Porto. (We'll leave on May 9th and I'll start posting here myself then.)

The reports of record arrivals in Santiago particularly have me wondering about accommodations. Are there lots of pilgrims? Any shortage of beds? Have the albergues listed in the guides all reopened?

Obrigado!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I'm leaving Porto on the same day! So I am quite interested in some answers as well!

I’ll be starting on the coastal route solo on May 11th. I’ll be looking forward to reading your updates, recommendations and any fun news.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hey we are leaving Porto on May 13th. We have booked the first night only. Hoping to stay in alberges and book as we go. So very interested to hear back from you on how busy it is. There may be a flurry of booking. Thanks.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I've been staying in private rooms, I've generally booked 1 or 2 days ahead. It's not been an issue getting a place to stay. If you book ahead a bit you'll have more options. I left Porto Tuesday afternoon.

My favourite place was Big House in Povoa Varzim. Oscar is a great host and his English is excellent, which made my life easy🙂 It's a lovely place; super clean, comfy beds, fridge in room, a great roof terrace to relax with space to eat, area to dry clothes - a good common room with sofa's, a good kitchen, supermarket across the street. It's really well thought out - the town is not my favourite, but Big House is (to me) one of those great places to stay.

I had the best of intentions about writing live from the camino in this thread, but unfortunately I injured my knee a few days before we left home and my caminho got curtailed. I can do okay for about 10 km per day on flat ground, but stairs and rocky slopes are out.

So with a little walking and a lot of trains, buses, taxis and Ubers we made it as far as Pontevedra. We had a lovely time anyway.

Thanks to my knee we skipped the albergues and stuck to Booking .com listings with elevators. We had no trouble finding a bed that that way, even booking at the last minute.

One standout: the Hotel Ruas in the old town of Pontevedra. Comfortable room, beautiful location, very friendly staff. It gets all the stars!

I'm still curious to hear from current pilgrims. Are the albergues full?
