Condom security

Time of past OR future Camino
I started in st jean and am currently in leon. My foot is blistered after my boots wore out.

Have completed many long distance treks longest is 1000 km, bibulmun track.
I had a valuable stolen ina gite in condom.

The owner has allowed non pilgrims to live there for over 6 months.

The gite shall remain nameless.

Please take notice of my loss and take extra security precautions with valuables and label all food you place in the fridge.

The spanish one day stay auberge policy is very wise.

Kind regards

Oz trekker.

Although a general warning to be wary and protect one's belongings, it is helpful to actually identify where both good and bad things take place. I like to remember where Camino friends have stayed and what to look for. It would be valuable to identify those gites that have long-term guests versus the typical short-term pilgrims/hikers.

The fact that some things are stolen on Camino is not new; even though it is quite vexing when it does happen.

Cheers,

I, too, completely misread the meaning of the post title! I thought you were keeping your valuables in a condom...oh dear. Sorry!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I am sorry to hear this! I will be in Condom tomorrow, so I would also like to know which gite you are talking about.
Gite d'etape communal, 20 rue Jean Jaures is the only pilgrim gite; the others are the tourist and commercial variety.

Le relais it was on the corner as you walk into the main town. Just ask the owner if they have non pilgrims living there.

I had done 35km with heat stroke so i was not as security aware as i could have been when i arrived.

Plus the owner kept hassling me to buy a petit dejouner which i declined three times, which sapped the last of my mental energy.

Just another day on the camino. Ultreia, at least i still have my card and passport.

I was in nepal and thailand so i am used to being ripped off and people trying to rob me.

I think the Relais is a commercial gite de France, so they take anyone as a guest. The gite d'etape is equally unsecure, but I think they take only pilgrims.

Very sorry to hear that. I must say, one should never associate the word "condom" and "security".....
Ha! I read the title and thought that maybe someone was issuing a warning about "faulty condoms"...well, you never know. That could be bad, too! :)

Condom and Moncuq are perennial jokes on the Chemin du Puy. The many places with batard in the name entertain many.

It's not clear what the stolen article was. Why not just say it? The need to label food is mentioned, but it's not clear that relates directly to the theft.

One would expect a longterm resident to be less likely to steal from someone passing through, since the thief is hanging around and more likely to be found in possession of the stolen article. Why is it so clear that the thief was a longterm resident and not someone who was moving on in the morning? My suspicions would fall on someone who was up and out early, perhaps not even staying for breakfast!

Hi there, I'm considering walking from Le Puy to St. Jean next spring if I can get my French up to par. I'm looking on advice on a few things: - Would it be too cool and rainy to start walking...
