AMET: The State Agency for Meteorology considers the year 2008 to be the coldest of the twenty-first century in Spain, despite global warming, with the average temperature in autumn being 14.8 degrees.
Lower than normal temperatures have been recorded since late August during the prolonged autumn, which is the most icy of the past fifteen years. Rivera cautioned that after the 25th December the weather will get worse over time in the eastern half of the peninsula, center and Cantabrian.
The spokesman for AEMET, Angel Rivera, said that this autumn has turned cold on the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with an estimated average temperature of 14.8 degrees centigrade, which puts 2008 in ninth place since 1965. However, while it was 'very cold 'on the Atlantic side and cool in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands had a normal average.
On the other hand, the spokesman for AEMET indicated that since the beginning of the hydrological year (from October 1 2007 to September 30 2008), there has been 15 per cent more than normal rainfall. He further announced that it is anticipated that from January 2009 to March 2009 they are expecting a below normal rainfall in virtually all of Spain.
