Christmas in Santiago

Time of past OR future Camino
December 2022
I’m on Camino now and through no planning find that I can make it to Santiago by December 24, allowing me to be there Christmas Day, if I average 31 Km days.

31 is a bit more then I like and may not be realistic with winter closures but I’m curious if this would be a worthy goal. Does anything happen in Santiago during Navidad that’s worth a bit of a push? Or the contrary, is it best to avoid Santiago then.

And also, I’ve read that things can get difficult with accommodation and food over the holiday. When does this start to be a problem? I’m on Via de La Plata now and plan on taking the Sanabres route.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

It’s a little bit different in Spain. Whilst Christmas is indisputably centred around December 25; there is at least as great a focus on January 5/6 - Las Reyes.

Given the choice of being in Santiago for Christmas or bring one day short, I’d go for it.
