Checked luggage question

We are flying from Santiago to Madrid tomorrow evening, spending the night at a hotel, and then flying to Chicago the next day. This is all on one ticket. Do we pick up our checked luggage at baggage claim in Madrid and then recheck it the next morning?

As Molly said; you’ll probably have the choice. What’s printed on your baggage tag by the agent (and on the little sticker which they’ll probably affix to your passport or boarding card) is definitive. Madrid is MAD O’Hare is ORD, I think.
 
The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Our packs were checked through to O'Hare and arrived safely. Our plane was struck by lightning on the way to Chicago, which apparently isn't a big deal, but was a bit alarming!
