Muir was a naturalist, a campaigner, and an environmentalist long before that term came to prominence. He thought that nature was a primary source revealing the character of God. That makes him one of ours in my book.

True but I don't think just on the Camino but every walk or communion with your innerself rewards you. As Mr. Thoreau said the question is not what you look at, but what you see.

And unfortunately, in our post-industrial quest for more and more material stuff we essentially don't need, we've ignored Muir's "truth," thereby putting our planet, its ecology and our species at great risk. Muir also famously said, "God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools."
