Camino San Salvador

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Baztan 2024
I have decided after much debate over the Christmas period that it is the right time to attempt the Camino San Salvador in 2025.
I have decided on six stages with a day either side for travel to and from the UK.
There seems to be a few alternative routes to arrive in Leon.
Would anyone kindly recommend the most suitable airport to arrive in Spain with good connections to Leon that should enable me sufficient time that same day to obtain a special San Salvador credential.
Happy new year everyone

Join us from Logroño to Burgos in May 2025 or Astorga to OCebreiro in June.
Last March I used Madrid. Took a taxi to Chamatin train station (30-40e)and direct train to Leon. Stayed at hotel Crisol Quindos right near the Camino start point. Had enough to time to find the special credential at the Albergue de Peregrinos Las Carbajalas, at the monastery of the Benedictine nuns. Set off the next morning. I also decided on six days and was happy with that.
All the best.

Thank you for your reply, sounds like Madrid will fit the bill.
Did the Camino meet/exceed your expectations?

I was really happy with the path and how it went. I loved being up in the hills on my own and finding that was so. Went there being prepared to be told in La Robla that it wouldn’t be advisable to cross at that time. They said it really shouldn’t be banked on before Easter but thought that maybe someone had done it in the days before so I was made up.

I was happy with Asturias Airport (OVD), because we arrived late-ish and could spend the night in Oviedo, a 40 minute busride from the airport. Train from Oviedo to Leon the next morning was just over an hour.

There are 2 locations where you can obtain the credencial.
I always visited the local Camino Association, nice visit. I like to support the local organizations, that’s why I obtained the credencial locally.

WHERE TO GET THE CREDENTIAL FOR THE CAMINO DE SAN SALVADOR:
1. Albergue of the Convent of the Carbajalas. Plaza Santa María del Camino, 3
2. Headquarters of the Local Camino Association (Asociación Amigos Camino Santiago León - Pulchra Leonina). Avenida Independencia, 2, 5th floor left (open mo-fri 11:00-13:00, 18:00-20:00), whatsapp +34 677 430 200

The Salvador is great!

Buen Camino

I recommend to contact the albergues the day before your arrival, as sometimes there are no restaurants or bars so you have to bring your food or to ask the hospitaleros for possibilities to have dinner.
Enjoy the way, it is great!
