Camino Portuguese -Hostel near Porto Airport

I plan to walk the Camino Porto in late May 2025. I have walked the Frances twice so want to give Porto a try. Having read the walk from the cathedral to north of the airport ares is mostly street/city walking, I have no intention of doing this segment. Is there a hostel or hotel northeast of the Porto Airport, that is near a metro station you can recommend? I plan to stay in the Porto area two days before I start, so would like to explore the city and area, before I start my walk to Santiago. The metro would provide great way to get around, so a hostel just north of the city , not far from the Camino path, would be perfect. Thanks for your response. ....Ken

That's true, but there is a much nicer alternative - the Senda Litoral. Walk down from the Cathedral to the river, then west to the sea. Then you walk along the ocean until Vila do Conde where you can continue in the Coastal Route, or cut inland to the Central Route.

Hi Ken, Porto is a wonderful city. We were there for 4 days before we started our camino from Valença in June. Be prepared to do a lot of walking in Porto. Or make use of Bolt or Uber for transport. It is not expensive. We stayed in the Fontainhas/Ribeira area close enough to explore the city on foot. Still it was a lot of walking. Porto is not flat! We took a train to Valença from Sao Bento station to start our walk. For you I suggest using Bolt or Uber to your starting point.
On our way back home we stayed at the Porto Smart apartments (https://g.co/kgs/M9yA1S) close to the airport. The Uber picked us up very early to catch our flight home.

Downtown Porto is delightful. I would stay there again before walking north. We took the metro 10 km north before walking. April WAS rainy. Bom Caminho

There are a number of reasonable hotels near Porto airport. I stayed in Hotel Aeroporto I April 2024. It's 5 minutes walk from the airport and does breakfast.
I landed at about 7 pm from Gatwick, UK, checked in, had a lovely 3 course dinner nearby and walked due West to the coast next morning. It's a 4 km walk to the sea.

In April 2025 I am staying at Hotel Near The Airport (that is it's name) and will repeat the same as in 2024.

Albergue de Peregrinos Porto (https://albergueperegrinosporto.pt) is 3 minutes walk from the Carolina Michaelis station on the Metro. Great place to stay for a couple of days before you start walking. About a 15 minute walk into the old town, cathedral, etc.

The Central route passes the front door or you can walk into town and start from the cathedral (either route.) Many pilgrims staying here take the metro to Matosinhos to begin their walk along the ocean.

Yes, the Cathedral, the tiled train station and the Eiffel Bridge are all downtown must sees. A Porto Walking Tour is enlightening. A whole day in Porto is not wasted. It is fantastic. Bom Caminho

Metro Vilar Stuites & Villas thru Bookings. $75 for room (two os us shared) - no meals (but meals are an option). 1042 Rua Manuel Francisco da Silva, 4485-850 Vilar do Pinheiro. Took a cab there from Porto Airport. Not much of a town, but right on the metro. There is a restaurant that provides enough sustenancejust down the road and it's easy to connect to the Camino.

Took a cab there from Porto Airport. Not much of a town, but right on the metro. There is a restaurant that provides enough sustenancejust down the road and it's easy to connect to the Camino.

I stayed at the Hotel Singular Porto Aeroporto. It was about a five minute walk to/from the airport.
