And alternative to starting in Bilbao is to start the Olvidado in Pamplona. I think @caminka and @Sheffield James have walked this variant, or parts of it. This guide indicates stages and routes, but notes that it is not (yet) waymarked. I would not be surprised to see more promotion of this route.

In fact, I think it’s @caminka’s guide that is posted in a pdf on the site! http://www.viejocaminoolvidado.com/.../12/4.-Camino-description-VIEJO-public-13.pdf

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Yes, Laurie, @Sheffield James , definitely. When I thought I would have time to do this and cooked up the cockamamie idea of going form the VI at Miranda de Ebro to the Olvidado at Aguilar de Campoo, I followed his journey with more than usual interest, and bookmarked it. Here is the thread as a link to one of @caminka's replies there that had a ton of information- you can go backwards and forwards in the tread for James's account and for discussion.

It gives 15 stages from Pamplona to Aguilar de Campoo, which is where it joins the Olvidado from Bilbao, right?
