Time of past OR future Camino
unsure still - deciding for August 2015!
Hello again!

So now that the Camino Inglés is decided for our August pilgrimage, I'm wondering if you could provide some feedback on our itinerary to Santiago. We are aiming to walk on average 15-20km per day (+a few more if necessary), which should come out to 7 days.

(I'd actually found a helpful thread on this matter few weeks ago but can't seem to find it anymore! So here we are....)

-Day 0: Fly into A Coruña
-Day 1: Bus A Coruña to Ferrol - Walk Ferrol to Neda
-Day 2: Neda - Pontedeume
-Day 3: Pontedeume - Betanzos
-Day 4: Betanzos to...(this is where it gets trickier) - Presedo? vs. till Bar Julia and then staying night at O Meson Novo as CSJ guide mentions
-Day 5: Presedo or Bar Julia - Bruma
-Day 6: Bruma - Sigueiro
-Day 7: Sigueiro - Santiago

Thank you for sharing your helpful thoughts and advice!

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
And just another question - is there anything special about arriving in Santiago on a Sunday? Because this current itinerary would have us arriving on Monday. My understanding is there's a pilgrim mass every day....

There is a pilgrims mass every day and there is an english mass every day at 10.30. The butafeiro incense burner depends on sponsorship and does not happen every day at 12.00. Don't forget that the ingles is a challenging up and down walk so your schedule depends on your age and fitness. Have you sorted accomodation yet. I have done the walk twice and can recommend places Buen Camino

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
We have just returned from the Inglés and split the stages between Pontedeume and Betanzos, staying at Mino; also did the Meson Novo split - from Casa Julia and returned to Meson Novo next day so could 'walk light'. Given that we wanted to also split the stage to Sigueiro we went into Ordes from Calle de Poulo and returned there next morning (taxi) to continue on the camino. We arrived on the Sunday at lunchtime, and went to the Pilgrim Office in the afternoon after siesta. At lunchtime the queue was out onto Rúa do Vilar by late afternoon it was well inside the courtyard.
If you arrive on a weekday there is an English Mass now every day at 10.30 - ask for the chapel - in addition to the daily mid-day Pilgrims' Mass.
Buen camino

We just completed our first Camino last week - a short recap is coming, after I remove all of the items stacked on my desk while I was out!

We did the itinerary you set out above (with the split between Betanzos - Bruma being at Bar Julia, staying at Meson O Novo, and having Antonio return us to Bar Julia the next morning for our walk back to Meson O Novo). The only difference is we stopped in Naron (Hotel Kennsignton) on the first night, rather than Neda. This is a difference of a few kms at best. It was a great itinerary. We enjoyed the walks, and there is nothing too strenuous (the longest day was Meson O Novo to Sigueiro, which was long and hot on our Camino) when you break it up into 7 days. It gave us time to enjoy the landscape and people...not to mention the food.

Thank you all very much for your feedback! Very helpful!
rlr9200 - thank you and the option of Naron is also interesting. I look forward to your recap!!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hello again!

-Day 4: Betanzos to...(this is where it gets trickier) - Presedo? vs. till Bar Julia and then staying night at O Meson Novo as CSJ guide mentions

hi Mira17,

I did a 7-day walk. I mostly stayed in public albergue except in Sigüeiro.

Day 1 -Ferrol – Neda 12 kms (Hostel Of Neda) with kitchen(stove)
Day 2 - Neda - Pontedeume 13 km (Albergue Municipal de Pontedeume)
Day 3 -Pontedeume – Betanzos 20 kms (Hostel Casa da Fish Betanzos) with kitchen(microwave)
Day 4 - Betanzos – Presedo 12 km (Hostel Presedo) a beautiful newly opened restaurant named Museo Meson, about 400 meters from the albergue
Day 5 -Presedo – Hospital de Bruma 16 Kms (Hostel of Bruma) with kitchen(stove)
Day 6 - Hospital de Bruma– Sigüeiro24 kms (Albergue de Delia) with kitchen(stove) and free to take and eat what they have in ref/kitchen.
Day 7 - Sigüeiro – Santiago de Compostela 16 kms

On day 4, it really depends. If you stay in Presedo, you have a shorter walk and pay less with lodging since you're staying in public albergue. O Meson Novo, is longer walk and have to pay a hotel rate. If cost in not a factor, i would suggest stay at O Meson Novo. I stay in Presedo because i want to pay less in lodging but i felt that the walk was too short. Where I saved in lodging, i spend it at Museo-Meson restaurant. A beautiful restaurant near the albergue. About 400 meters and the owners are so nice and friendly.

Buen camino - have a great time and enjoy the beauty of Galicia

Dennis

In addition, the Presedo albergue is the smallest albergue of all the albergue that I stayed. Kitchen construction was in progress when i was there. Hopefully it's finished by now.
