Dear All,

After my great experience last year between Bilbao and Santander, I am planning to walk 5 days from Santander to Ribadesella.
I will not do Santander Santillana del mar full. So either i will take the train to Boo Pelagios and take the very new road has shown in yellow on the Buen Camino app. Or i take the train one step further to Mogro and take the old alternative road, in red on the Buen camino app. What do you suggest me? Looking at few testimonies and it seems that peregrinos are still taking the old alternative in Mogro.

I'm not sure it you are planning to walk to Santillana del Mar but if you do I strongly suggest you plan to spend a couple of hours at the Museo Altamira, which is just 1.5 km south of town. You can easily walk it or take a taxi. You won't be disappointed. Buen Camino

Hands down, the most beautiful way to walk from Santander is to loop up to the coast.

There are many great threads with information about the route, accommodations, and the experience in general. Start with this one, and you can use the search function to find more.

The difference between the official camino route from Santander to Santillana and this coastal alternative is huge — the first is a lot of pavement, some industry, just generally a slog, while the coastal route is gorgeous.

Thanks for the idea.
In my initial planning i am staying in Santillana Monday...And the Museo Altamira is closed on Monday. :-/
I am playing with the rubik's cube of all my constraints to find a solution to visit it anyway. 🙃

Thanks for you reply.
My idea was to bypass the exit of Santander due to this pavement industries and all but i will take a look at your post to try to change my plan.
