Camino Del Norte or Camino Primitivo?

So here is my plan................
I plan to walk the spanish part of the Camino frances for the second time, then add the Camino Ingles.
I will then have some spare days and wish to hear your opinions on whether I should

1............take a bus part of the way back along the Camino del Norte and walk to Santiago

or
2...........take a bus part of the way back along the Primitivo and Walk to Santiago.

What problems may there be if I do this?? Thanks everyone.....!
Oh and this last bit will be in mid June 2016!

It might be a good idea if you add which time of the year you are planning to walk Buen Camino, SY

Travel wise it is easy to get a bus to Lugo from Santiago, and then on from Lugo to Fonsagrada (or less distance) and walk the Primitivo. You rejoin the Frances at Melide. Getting to the Norte is more difficult and time consuming. Again, to Lugo and then to Ribadeo by bus. Bus companies - Freire, Monbus etc not ALSA

Hi Wendy,

That's a really nice dilemma. If it were me, I would consider going to Ribadeo on completion of the Camino Frances. and walking the Ruta do Mar, which connects with the Ingles. That would tick two boxes for you! I took a quick look at Rome2Rio and Alsa and there are direct buses from Santiago to Ribadeo - taking from 3 hours 15 mins.

I can only speak about the Primitivo, the last days, after Lugo I would say, are really not at par with the begining of it, but then again, I know nothing of the last stages of the Norte. If you wanted to walk back and wouldn't mind not ending in Santiago, then I would say do a first few days on the Primitivo. Or have you considered the 4 or 5 days on the Salvador, from Leon to Oviedo?

Have you definitely ruled out other options?
How many 'spare' days do you anticipate having?
Both options you mention (if you have only say 4 days) would mean joining back up with the Camino Frances again for a few days.
Unless it is not your intention to walk into SDC at the end. You could walk the Primitivo from Oviedo to Lugo (depending on days you have) .
You could get transport to Leon and then walk Camino Del Salvador to Oviedo in 5 days. A glorious Camino but a quiet one. You'd have to get yourself out of Oviedo after that
Norte /you could walk any section and love it but getting there could take time.

Have you thought about spending time in SDC ? Plenty to see
Or doing part of Portuguese (from Porto) to SDC. Porto is easy by bus from SDC
Or from Tui on the border, to SDC which is much less time but (I think) gives entitlement to a Compostela for the Portuguese route.

Or have you yet walked fromSdc out to Finisterra? You could even bus it out and relax around the coast there and also on to muxia .

These are always difficult questions to answer.

Your request mentions ending in Santiago but does not indicate how many days you might have to walk. I assume this is an unknown. Either choice would be a good one. I would recommend you wait until you get to this point and decide while in Santiago. At that time, you will know how much time you have to walk. There may be other factors, at that time that will contribute to you decision (ie: new friends you have made, places you might have heard of that you want to visit, etc., etc.).

You have quite a trip planned already. My suggestion is to just complete the plan you have outlined and then let your heart and the Camino determine where you go from there.

I haven't used the service - I found this info on the handy little app. Rome2rio.com

It will help in virtually any search like that.

That is a big improvement on bus time. Alsa route must have lots of cafe con leche stops .

I think that the ALSA goes via Coruña and the Freire more direct. Note that there were two buses at 11.00am. One direct and one round the villages that took 30 minutes or so longer. You get the ticket for a specific Freire bus so we asked for the quicker one and double checked with the driver that we were boarding the right bus.
