Originally from Catalonia, the Caganer can now be seen at Christmas time allover Spain in Nativity scenes. In the beginning these figurines were modeled after typical Catalan peasants but nowadays they come in all shapes and forms: celebrities, professions, politicians but the one thing they have in common is that they 'take a dump' and that they are considered bringers of good luck. You can spot them pretty much everywhere where Nativity scenes are displayed, even in churches! Mine is a caganer peregrino ;-) Please share your photo, if you have one!

Thank you for this share!
We have a Catalan “ Tio”, the log that arrives to the house and is “ fed” to then be “ beaten with a stick” by the children as they sing a certain song “ tio Tio poop out chocolate ( from the feeding), don’t poop out Swedish fish, Swedish fish are salty, we want chocolate”. I share that as it has become a fun Holiday tradition at our home. It arrived to our family in Muxia with a nice festive greeting.
Its funny that both Catalan traditions involve popping…
