Burgos to host next Friends of the Camino Congress

The city of Burgos has been chosen to host the next International Congress of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago which is held every three years.
Although it is still early to know the subjectS that will address the meeting, the appointment all associations are called Friends of the Camino. As noted by Jesus Aguirre, president of the Burgos group, estimates that nationally there are fifty training linked to the Pilgrim, and thirty others scattered around the world. En el último encuentro, organizado en Valencia en octubre pasado, se debatió entre las ciudades candidatas y la organización, finalmente, se ha decantado por la de Burgos.
Aunque aún es pronto para conocer el tema sobre el que versará la reunión, a la cita están convocadas todas las asociaciones de Amigos del Camino. Según apunta Jesús Aguirre, presidente de la agrupación burgalesa, a nivel nacional calculan que haya medio centenar de formaciones vinculadas a la Ruta Jacobea, y otras treinta repartidas por el resto del mundo. En total estarán en Burgos -tampoco saben dónde podrán celebrarlo- unas 80 asociaciones.

Santiago y el viejo continente

La candidatura para celebrar el congreso se les ha concedido coincidiendo con la celebración de su primer cuarto de siglo de existencia, cumpleaños que la Asociación de Amigos del Camino de Santiago también comparte con la declaración de la Ruta Jacobea como el primer Itinerario Cultural Europeo en octubre de 1987.
Esa efeméride les ha servido de excusa para organizar un ciclo de conferencias en el que se destaca la importancia del Camino -ruta conocida como Calle Mayor de Europa- en el viejo continente. Las charlas, que se celebrarán la semana que viene en la Sala Polisón, servirán para explicar el papel de la Ruta Jacobea en países como Alemania, Francia o Italia, por qué son estos los que aportan el mayor número de peregrinos y cuál es su vinculación histórica.
La conferencias están organizadas en colaboración con la Casa de Europa.
